Things to keep in mind before your first class:

  • Learn more about our class types here
  • We recommend showing up 15 min before your first class in order to get checked in and situated in the studio.
  • All FSYC classes are warm classes, we are not a hot yoga studio. The room is kept at 75-78 degrees so bring a hand towel. Bring a water bottle. We do have a filtered water system so you can re fill your container.
  • Blocks and straps are readily available for use. Feel free to bring your own mat and props if you like. If you forget your mat, we do have mats available free of charge.

“Namaste” is a Sanskrit word that you may have heard at the end of a yoga class. Recently, yoga teachers in the western world have been looking more carefully at how, when, and if it’s appropriate to use the word “Namaste”. This reflects in our studio too. “Namah” means “bow, salutation, reverence, adoration” “Te” is a way to address the second person = “you” Putting it together, namaste literally translates to “bowing to you”.

Most of our teachers at FSYC do not end their classes with the word “Namaste.” They have never had the lived experience of greeting someone this way. Changing the word Namaste to slogans like Nama-slay or Nama-stay, or using Namaste as a way to signal “class is over, you can leave now” are classic signs of cultural appropriation.
